Vehicles 1999 & Older

Smog Check for 1999 & Older Vehicles

For vehicles from 1999 and older, we perform a tailpipe emissions test to check for pollutants and ensure compliance with California standards. All vehicles also undergo a visual and functional inspection of emissions components to verify that they are intact and unmodified.

  • 1996–1999 vehicles: Required to complete both a tailpipe emissions test and an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) check for emissions-related issues.

  • 1995 and older vehicles: Required to complete both an emissions test and a functional test. Additional checks may include ignition timing and an evaporative emissions (EVAP) test for fuel vapor leaks.

If a vehicle fails any test, we provide a report detailing the issues that need fixing before retesting. If your vehicle passes the smog check, you can proceed with renewal, transfer, and DMV fee payment.
